Looking back on your preliminary task (the continuity editing task) what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to full product?
When we first started to bring up ideas for our preliminary task and looking at the different camera angles we could use, it was different to any other filming i had personally done before.
The only filming i had done before was skate edits with my friend Nathan and other films such as basketball trick shots. the types of angles in these type of films are all about getting different angles to get as much of what trick you are doing at the time. So when i started to look at camera angles for things such as crime drama where you have to film standing conversations from one actor to another and using techniques like the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot, it was a learning curve at first but due to me already having experience using a camera i picked it up quickly. The editing side of the two different types of filming was similar and i didn't have to learn much to allow my self to get the end product i wanted.
For the preliminary task we stupidly used a phone to film it, although it was 1080p we made the mistake of not using a tripod and filming it portrait instead of landscape. Although at the time we thought not using a tripod was a mistake to turned out that it worked out well as it gave us a better atmosphere to the film and made you feel closer the the action.
All of this taken in and learning from our mistakes in the preliminary task it gave us a better leg to stand on when filming the final opening. By using an X-grip to hold the video camera instead of no tripod and an Iphone, it gave us a much better quality and allowing us to use a slightly less stable camera it gave us the best possible effect to make the audience feel as close the the action as they can.
Over all the preliminary task was the most helpful aspect of the course as it gave us the basic skills i could build on to create the image for a film opening i wanted. With out it i wouldn't have learned how to do the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot which were key parts in our final product.
Cam - Where are your other evaluation posts? 1, 3 and 6 are missing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, where is all the evidence of your research? I know you originally posted a lot of this on your earlier blog, which you had to abandon because it wasn't working properly, but surely you should have been able to copy and paste it all across by now! Please do this as a matter of urgency.
Furthermore, there are some other things missing from your planning, which I know you have done - where is the Dank Bank logo work? Brainstorming of initial ideas (pitch, costume/props and risk assessment are the only planning features that seem to be included on your blog)?
Finally - preliminary task: It needs re-labelling (it is currently mislabelled as 'Voxpop'!) Also, where is the shotlist and questionnaire referred to in your comments?
Please take care of all of this over the weekend Cam. I know you have really turned things around with your work in Media Studies. It would be a real shame not to be able to reward you for this! Good luck!
