We looked in to crime drama as our genre i focused on the channel 4 program Top Boy;

Top boy is set on the fictional Summerhouse housing estate in Hackney, East London, the series follows the lives of a group of people involved in drug dealing and street gangs. The series aims to provide an insight into life in London estates, and how drugs affect everyone living there. It mainly Focuses on the youths in the area getting affected by the convincing drug dealers who try and get them to do dealing for them to prevent themselves from getting caught.

evaluation task 7

Looking back on your preliminary task (the continuity editing task) what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to full product?

When we first started to bring up ideas for our preliminary task and looking at the different camera angles we could use, it was different to any other filming i had personally done before.

The only filming i had done before was skate edits with my friend Nathan and other films such as basketball trick shots. the types of angles in these type of films are all about getting different angles to get as much of what trick you are doing at the time. So when i started to look at camera angles for things such as crime drama where you have to film standing conversations from one actor to another and using techniques like the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot, it was a learning curve at first but due to me already having experience using a camera i picked it up quickly. The editing side of the two different types of filming was similar and i didn't have to learn much to allow my self to get the end product i wanted.

For the preliminary task we stupidly used a phone to film it, although it was 1080p we made the mistake of not using a tripod and filming it portrait instead of landscape. Although at the time we thought not using a tripod was a mistake to turned out that it worked out well as it gave us a better atmosphere to the film and made you feel closer the the action.

All of this taken in and learning from our mistakes in the preliminary task it gave us a better leg to stand on when filming the final opening. By using an X-grip to hold the video camera instead of no tripod and an Iphone, it gave us a much better quality and allowing us to use a slightly less stable camera it gave us the best possible effect to make the audience feel as close the the action as they can.
Over all the preliminary task was the most helpful aspect of the course as it gave us the basic skills i could build on to create the image for a film opening i wanted. With out it i wouldn't have learned how to do the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot which were key parts in our final product.

Evaluation task 5

How did you attract/ address your audience for your media product?

Our film opening will attract a certain audience due to the fact the opening can be linked to other films in our genre. One of the films is Harry Brown, the opening can be similar in the aspect of the main features are in both. This is things such as drugs, crime and murder. This will attract the audience that has seen and enjoyed this film as you would think it is similar and therefore be similar in quality, so they would enjoy it. The main aspects will also be in the norms of a crime drama piece and anyone who enjoys a crime drama will want to watch it as it is their sort of film. But also there are also some qualities that go against the norms of a crime drama and that can attract the audience. We also attracted our audience by our choice of music which was the song Warm up by Chris Webby which is a hip hop song and our target audience as described earlier will listen, enjoy and recognise such music and will attract and address our target audience. The unique selling point of our film is that there are certain things that are 'Unexpected' and that is what will frequently happen (Unexpected things) so it will surprise you and make you want to watch more and will attract and audience.

evaluation task 4

Our target audience would be 18-25 year olds. We chose this age range as they will enjoy the tense atmosphere of our film and may be able to relate to it in some way! If we had chosen an older range they may not understand or find it to violent and rude. They may also not understand some of the terminology as it may not have been used in there youth. If we had chosen a younger audience it would have been to tame and not fit our original ideas as we would have had to cut out some of the language and violence.

Music:

Our target market would also be interested in more urban music and brands for this reason we used 'Chris Webby Worm Up' in our opening scenes as our target audience would enjoy it much more and recognise it. If we had used music that is frequently played on the radio they may feel it is to generic and would think that it will be like every other crime drama

Tv:

Our target audience would be interested in show such as Top Boy on channel 4. Top boy is about a young boy who's mum is mental ill and is taken to hospital. he is then left on his own with temptations from drug dealers in his local area.

Costume

Costume:

Actor one  and two(drug dealers)

For our two drug dealers we want to create a two characters that looked like your average urban lads who may look a bit dodgy and might have a bit of a rough edge to them. For this effect we will chose to get them to wear jeans, hoodies, coats and possible hats. This combination could give off the impression we want. The cloths will be dark to show little about there personality, the jeans will be baggy to show that they don't have much respect for there appearance. The coat will then contradict this impression by showing that they half want to look smart but feel confutable at the same time, the coat will also give them a good place to conceal drugs or a weapon. The idea for the hat and hoodie is to show that they may want to hide there face if a situation occurs that they could get in trouble. Actor one will also have a beard to show he doesn't care to much about his appearance and he likes a bit more of a rough and scruffy look.

Actor three (cow suit guy)

The reason for the cow suit is not only is he going to a halloween party but you would never expect someone in a cow suit to kill any one or be a drug lord in an urban environment. This costumes representation fits the title of our film perfectly (the unexpected).

Make up:

The only small amount type of make up we will use is to show the blood in the stab wound of actor one

Props:

Our main three props are:

screw driver- used to show how he doesn't care about how he inflicts pain he just wants to get the job done no matter what the costs

money in an envelope:- to show how much the deal is worth and what is at stake

pen knife- this shows how prepared and maybe scared actor one is about the risky deal he is doing

fake drugs- to make the film feel more real as you can see what looks like real drugs
